Quick Post: Things are about to get really good

Pinterest Image - link here.

There's no secret that I haven't been at 100% over the last month but something I keep in my mind everyday is that 'THINGS ARE GOING TO GET BETTER'.

It's simple and effective but by keeping a positive outlook and a positive mantra it can really help your mood.

I've started to see a change in my behaviour, what I like and dislike, and how I cope with different situations.

It's odd but after having a depressive period I tend to see a complete change in my behaviours towards certain things - movies or books that seemed appealing before are now things which make me shiver or turn me off. Where as I've found a new love for 'the easy life', chick flicks and magazines rather than crime dramas and books.

I know I'll slowly get back my love for those things and my old routine and activities but now I'm just taking one day at a time and everyday making sure I note the positive things everyday and keeping in my mind that things are about to get really good.

(I've also started pinning a lot of positive mantras on my Pinterest - check it out here.)

Quick Post: 8 things that have made me happy!

So this month I am writing off. I know it's not the end of April just yet but I spent the first two weeks away and then came back to work during the Easter weekend when the sunshine was glorious and we had a bit of a work crisis.

So today I'm going to list 8 things that have made me happy over the last month...
Hopefully I will be able to write a longer list in May!!

  1. Lowering my caffeine intake! As from today I haven't had a cup of coffee in a week! A whole week! I used to drink 3 or 4 cups a day. I now am obsessed with decaf tea and green tea with pomegranate. I feel so much better for it.
  2. Drinking more water. To counteract my less caffeine intake I have started drinking water by the bucket full, more specifically sparkling water. Giving up on fizzy juice this has made a great replacement and my skin has cleared up a ton since I started - an added bonus!
  3. The Sunshine. Waking up every morning to a sunshiny glow through my window has boosted my mood and made me more happy. Long may it continue!
  4. Easter eggs! The excuse to eat chocolate has made me happy. Even though I'm trying to be more healthy - who doesn't love a bit of naughty chocolate.
  5. Making plans. I have made so many plans and achieved something this month I thought would take me ages so that makes me happy - looking forward to the future.
  6. Thinking that I WILL. I read a quote on Instagram (I can't remember who!) that said something along the lines of 'Stop thinking I WISH, and start thinking I WILL.' My new mantra.
  7. Pink Grapefruit and Lime Room Spray. By TU at Sainsburys. Such a summery fruit scent that it makes me whole flat feel like Spring has sprung. I want to go back and get the scented candles too!
  8. My Friends. I've had a rough month and knowing they've been there and sending me nice texts and msgs means a lot. I don't know what I'd do without them sometimes, and I wish we all lived closer together!!
I hope you can write a list the same, if not longer, than this to help you reflect on all the good things that have happened so far in April!

Quick Post: Update on Life

Sorry it seems as though I have disappeared into the black hole of given up blogs but I promise you this has not been the case.

I have had to take some time recently to deal with a personal problem and this has caused me to rearrange some priorities in my life and unfortunately during this time I felt it was best to step away from social media for a week and my blog for a few weeks.

I am still not completely 100% however I do intend to get back to blogging as soon as I can as this is a great cathartic release for me and I enjoy the sense of community in the blogosphere.

Quick Post: Studio App

For those who follow my Pinterest you'll know I have a little obsession with typography. It intrigues me and I love things with quotes in expressive fonts and design concepts.

Recently which browsing the App Store on my phone I was suggested the App 'Studio'. Intrigued I downloaded it (for free!) and signed up.

And wow! I am impressed. I craved the 'A Beautiful Mess' App for ages after it was released (I didn't have iOS 6 at the time) and now use it all the time, but after downloading Studio I can see myself using this one a lot more.

You don't have to share your creations on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with Studio (but you can if you want) Studio holds your images in a feed much like Instagram. But each image can be created with any number of overlay options, from text to life mantras, funny disguises to put over pictures and multiple added extras to add to your pictures.

My username is ruthlucie_ for those who want to follow me!

Here are a few of my (not very good) creations so far!

Studio is available on iTunes App Store and Android.
This post is NOT sponsored, just my own opinion!

Monday Favourites: Craftanoon

Sometimes you just need a little break from the norm, a change up in your routine and for me it's starting a new project or trying a new craft.

I'd seen the 'Sharpie' mugs on Pinterest for a while now but never really bothered with actually attempting to try it myself. Sure I'd thought about it but I usually store those kind of things for a rainy day, and as often as they come, sitting drinking coffee and watching Netflix seems more appealing.

But after reading Millie's post at I decided that the simplicity of creating this cute personalised item was worth an afternoon away from House of Cards.

I bought a 78p mug from Tesco and some permanent markers (No actual Sharpies left at my Tesco!).

Following Millie's instructions I prepared the mug with some vinegar and drew on my design. I knew I'd probably be drinking coffee from it so went with a cute customised 'Cafe Au Lait' slogan with 'Coffee Time' on the back.

I baked it in the oven at 220 degrees for half an hour and then left it to cool in the oven.

It came out awesome! I wish I'd bought more mugs to customise. Such a cute and easy craft to do and really inexpensive. Seen as monogrammed mugs are really popular right now I might have to give that a go next time.

What do you think? Will you try it?

Quick Post: Two Tattoo Tuesday!!

Yesterday was amazing.
As you all know from my article on Things and Ink, and photos on my Instagram I have a lot of tattoos and it's become a kind of collection for me.

Back in January I found out that one of my favourite artists was guest spotting at a tattoo shop in Edinburgh and I had to get booked in!
I've been researching female tattoo artists for a while and one of my top 6 artists is a lovely lady called Danielle Rose (Here is her Instagram) She does amazing black and shaded work in a bunch of designs - her most famous is her girl heads, known for their melancholy expressions and tear stained cheeks.

So what else could I book in for except a girl head?!
Danielle had drawn up a design for me but because she had a cancelled appointment I had the choice of two designs - I choose the one she originally drew for me without even knowing.

My appointment was delayed a little as the shop I was in was being inspected but seen as it was such a friendly atmosphere I didn't mind waiting - plus I got three cups of tea out of it and to chat to some other amazing artists.

I was having the tattoo done on the front of my left shin opposite a girl design I had done last year by Joe Ellis (Instagram). We decided to make it slightly bigger and add a rose at the bottom of the design to tie in with Joe's design.

It didn't take too long to set the design on my leg and begin the line work. Danielle's style of tattooing was amazing to watch. After the lines were put in, the way she shaded the work on the body and collarbone was done in a way I haven't seen before and created a fantastic effect.

In total the tattoo took roughly three hours, after changing my mind about the colour of my roses - I am so happy with how it turned out. We even spoke about how I'd book in with her the next time she's in Edinburgh, I can see her completing my left leg!

After getting tattooed I stayed and got tattooed by shop owner Jen (Instagram). I had decided to get two done in one day as I don't usually get through to Edinburgh a lot and I love Jen's designs she's been drawing up recently.

The other guys at the studio said I was impressive getting two done in a day - and I didn't think anything of it... until about 15 minutes into the second one when I realised they were right! But the end design was fantastic and I'm glad I stayed. I had it done on my right leg, inner ankle.

What do you think of my two new additions?
Have you got any tattoos?
